Since 2001, China Textile Information Center undertook the "China Applied Color Research Project" of the Ministry of Science and Technology and established the CNCS color system. After that, we conducted extensive color research and collected color information through the Center's Trend Research Department, China Fashion Color Association, foreign partners, buyers, and designers to conduct market research. After several years of efforts, the first version of the color system was developed and the materials and processes used were determined.

CNCSCOLOR's 7-digit number, the first 3 bits are hue, the middle 2 bits are lightness, and the last 2 bits are chroma.

Hue

The hue is divided into 160 levels with a label range of 001-160. The hue is arranged side by side in a counterclockwise direction on a hue circle in the order of red to yellow, green, blue, and purple. The CNCS hue loop is shown in Figure 1.

Lightness (Value)

There is a total of 99 brightness levels between ideal black and ideal white. The lightness labels range from 01 to 99 and are arranged in order from small to large (that is, from deep to light).

Chroma

The chroma index starts from 01, and the direction of the outgoing radiation from the center of the hue ring sequentially increases. For example, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06... The extremely low chroma of less than 01 is represented by 00.
